We were recently asked by a client to take over their existing alarm system. During the visit, our engineers found several issues with how the system had been installed.
Site Visit Summary
Our team arrived at 9:15am and began by locating the alarm panel. After tracing wiring through the loft and into the bathroom, the panel was eventually found behind the bath panel — placed underneath the bathtub in a plastic bag.
Issues Identified
- There was no fused spur to power the alarm system, which is a standard safety requirement.
- Signs of water damage were present, indicating the bath had leaked at some point.
- A large electrical junction box was installed close to the bath, which could pose a hazard given the moisture risk in the area.
Recommendation
We advised the client that the current setup was not compliant with best practice and could become a safety issue over time. Relocating the panel and ensuring a proper power supply would be the next step.
