The Sun reports that the axing of 17,000 front-line officers in 6 years may have lead to an increased inability to solve burglaries. Only 5% of the 2.1 million reported burglaries in Britain resulted in the successful charging of a suspect. Just 7% of that taken from domestic and commercial raids was ever recovered.
Labour MP Yvette Cooper, chair of the Home Affairs Select Committee, said: “Burglaries are awful crimes, leaving people fearful in their homes”.
